Hiring A Real Estate Agent? Make Them Show Their Work!

Greetings, friends, real estate fans, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen. Jeremy Larkin here. You’re watching another episode of Go St. George TV.

Today we’re going to talk about two really powerful questions to ask the agent that you’re interviewing for the job of selling your home. It’s going to help you cut through the clutter and separate the contenders from the actual pretenders and there are very few contenders and lots of pretenders.

So we need to understand marketing real estate online before we can talk about the questions and here’s a sample. I’m looking at the back end of my website. But the front end, every Monday I get a report and this triggered me to think about answering this question.

People always ask me, “How do I hire the right real estate agent?” Well, first of all, you might want to ask them to show their work. I get an email every Monday morning that shows me how many people visited our website, ourGoStGeorge.com website in the last week, and it shows me on a rolling average how many people are looking at it.

Well, what are you hiring a real estate agent for in the place? You’re hiring us to market your home and expose it in such a way that you can get lots of money for it and sell really fast and save you the trouble. OK?

So if you’re going to market real estate online, you need to understand two truths. Number one is that most buyers start their home search online and then increasingly they’re on mobile. So they’re on mobile devices, phones and tablets.

Agents know this and they love to use this kind of phrases like “aggressive marketing plan”. We have hundreds of websites, powerful online marketing plans. These are catch phrases. This is stuff they’re trained to say. Well, what you’re going to do is you’re going to say, “Well, why don’t you show me your work?” The agent you hired to sell your home needs to be able to show his or her work, right? There are only two questions you need to ask them in this aspect.

Number one, exactly how many people visit your YouTube channel, Facebookpage, website? Number two, can you show me? Prove it. OK? Show me the work. Showing the work is like when you’re in fifth grade and your teacher asks you to turn in the work and you turn in the work. They’re not going to take your word for it. They will ask you to show them the work.

So you want them to show you things like how many people come to your website, how many people come per day. Prove it to me. Do people actually visit GoStGeorge.com? How about Facebook? Do people actually go to your Facebook page? You put stuff all over Facebook. Are you just fiddling around or is it showing up in people’s news feed. Are people clicking on the links? Are they liking the posts, right? This is activity. Are people taking action on your YouTube channel? Are you just posting videos or do you have subscribers and viewers, folks?

Ask the agent that you’re interviewing for the job of selling your home to show their work. Ask them to show their work. Exactly how many people visit your website and number two, can you prove it? That question can help you quite a bit. All right?
